FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- A recent spike in drug overdose reports in Fargo is on the radar of first responders, police and health officials.
The spike, noted in September, was the result of a particularly pure form of heroin on the streets. Fire Chief Steve Dirksen says overall, the number of overdose calls hasn't changed significantly when compared with the past couple of years.
However, Police Chief Dave Todd told city commissioners, the numbers are concerning. He says the addictions are driving behavior. He cites the recent arrest of two suspects in a string of business robberies who admitted they committed the robberies to pay for their heroin habits.
Todd says known heroin overdose cases are double from a year ago, 14 so far compared to seven in 2013.
