FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- Fargo City Commissioners say they will come up with a plan for a special election for a new mayor by their next meeting, December 22.
Monday night, commmissioners had plenty of questions for City Attorney Erik Carlson about the process to find a replacement for Dennis Walaker who died last week.
The situation is somewhat complicated by a requirement that any city commissioner running for mayor must resign. City Commissioner and acting Mayor Tim Mahoney says he plans to run for the seat. Commissioner's Mike Williams and Dave Piepkorn have told KFGO News they are interested but have made no decision yet. Any such move would create a major shake-up of the city commission.
