GRAND FORKS (KFGO-AM) A black bear was shot and killed by Grand Forks police Friday night after attempts to push the animal out of the city failed.
Police say the bear was running through residential neighborhoods and there was a concern it might attack pets or people. Police made the decision after consulting with the state Game and Fish Department and the Humane Society and finding out there was no non-lethal solutions available.
Police say although extremely rare in this area, black bears do occasionally wander through, and they are capable of causing serious injury or death if cornered or feel threatened.
