'MAPLETON, N.D. (KFGO-AM) The mayor of Mapleton is being recalled in a special election set for November 20.
Critics accuse first term Mayor Eric Hillman of unprofessional conduct and not acting in the best interests of the community. Hillman is shocked by the recall and denies accusations he's strong armed city decisions. Hillman says he doesn't do the job for his own gratification. He says "I do it to serve my community." Hillman's been boards or the city council since he moved to Mapleton 19 years ago.
City Council member Ryan C. Johnson is chairman of the recall committee. He accuses the mayor of political talk "after hours" while intoxicated and forcing decisions that he says are a "personal vendetta."
Carlita Dietz, a city council member ousted in the June election is running against Hillman.
