FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- On Monday, Fargo City Commissioners will take up a recommendation to establish an Arts and Culture Commission. The request comes from a task force set up by the city nearly a year ago to examine existing public art and set priorities for expanding public art to enhance Fargo.
City Commissioner Melissa Sobolik, a member of the task force, says the city already sets aside a small amount of money annually for arts. She says the Arts and Culture Commission will look at additional funding sources. She says most communities look at public-private partnership's or private funding.
Sobolik says the city's "Go 2030" long range development plan, based on input from residents, listed flood protection, infill and public art as the top priorities.
If approved, the nine member Arts and Culture Commission will be appointed by the City Commission and could start its work as soon as January.
