FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- Once again, Fargo police are issuing an alert after a spike in burglaries. In the past 8 days, 10 burglaries have been reported in and around the Prairiewood and Bluemont Lakes neighborhoods.
Lt. Joel Vettel says garages and apartments were hit. A common denominator; doors were either unlocked or left open. He says that's a "beacon" for thieves who drive around, looking for easy targets.
Vettel says despite the occassional spikes, the police department's initiative to deter burglaries through education, some key arrests, and increased patrols is paying off. Year-to-date, burgarlies in Fargo are down 33%, or 171 fewer than last year at this time.
