FERGUS FALLS, MN (KFGO-AM) -- A customer at the American Legion in Fergus Falls tried to put out a fire on his own Monday night and suffered the effects of breathing in smoke as a result.
Fire Chief Mark Hovland says the fire was in the furnace on the roof of the building on Pebble Lake Road. He says the customer grabbed an extinguisher and climbed into the attic to try to get at the fire.
Hovland says the man risked his own safety and he doesn't recommend that anyone take such action.
He refused to be taken to the hospital by ambulance.
