MOORHEAD (KFGO-AM) Moorhead home and and business owners can anticipate lower insurance rates as result of a new rating.
The Insurance Services Office recently analyzed the fire department's operations, covering everything from communications, staffing and training to water supply and upgraded the rating. The review was last done in 1996.
Fire Chief Rich Duyson says the department's rating was upgraded to a 3 from a 4. The so-called ISO rating scale goes from one to 10 and the lower the number the better. He says insurance companies look at that rating to determine coverage and prices and he says the lower rating should mean a lower rate for property owners.
Duyson says nationwide, there are 47,000 fire departments rated and only there are only about 2300 that are rated a three.
