FARGO (KFGO-AM) - The Cass County Commission is being asked to approve an ordinance that requires the sheriff's office to be notified about public events.
Sheriff Paul Laney, who's promoting the idea, says the ordinance would not include private gatherings. Laney says the ordinance is based on a state law that's already in place.
A draft copy of the ordinance says "no public event may be permitted to proceed unless officers are present and the fees are paid."
The sheriff says those events may include concerts, dances, races and rodeos.
County commissioners have not yet given final approval.
