MOORHEAD (KFGO-AM) -- What turned out to be a controversial project for an apartment complex for homeless families in Moorhead is not expected to receive a $6-million deferred loan from the Minnesota Housing Finance agency.

Churches United for the Homeless Executive Director Jane Alexander says housing agency staff will not recommend the project for approval. While she's disappointed, Alexander says she knew that the loan was a long shot given the number of requests from across the state. Her board will now look to other possible options for the 41-unit apartment complex proposed for a vacant lot on 34th St. no.

She says she's confident that the loan might be approved next year or the following year.

Some neighbors had spoken out against the idea.
