GRAND FORKS (KFGO-AM) -- A Grand Forks company partnered with UND has created a specialized antibody technology that researchers hope can kill Ebola.
Avianex and UND were approached by the U.S. Department of Defense after finding out they had successfully made antibodies for 14 viruses by using goose eggs as an incubator. David Bradley, Executive Director of Infectious Diseases at UND, is confident a strong treatment is possible since they have already made working antibodies against the Andes virus, which is similar to Ebola.
Right now, there are about 20 geese eggs being immunized with part of Ebola DNA.
Company officials will be in Virginia Tuesday to present their method to experts from the government. They are still waiting on funding.
