FARGO (KFGO-AM) Fargo City Commissioner Dave Piepkorn says he's not giving up on finding a solution to recurrent flooding on a low section of Elm Street. Earlier this week, the City Commission tabled his request to proceed with further study after engineers said the cost and impacts were not worth it.

Several options were examined. Building a bridge or causeway over the dip between 14th and 15th Avenues North is estimated to cost $25 million.

Piepkorn believes that's the best solution, although he admits it's expensive. He'll look to the state and federal government for funding to defray the cost and says he'll start by discussing it with the Metropolitan Council of Governments, which does traffic planning for the Fargo-Moorhead area.

Fargo Public Works says Elm Street has been closed more than 600 times in the past ten years due to flooding from the nearby Red River.
