FARGO (KFGO-AM) Fargo City Comissioners have tabled any decision for now on studying a solution to recurring flooding that closes a one block stretch of north Elm Street.

City engineers say most of the options looking at are costly for the benefits received. Two would require home buyouts. Another would require aquisition of el zagel golf course.

Commissioner Dave Piepkorn asked city staff to look for a solution. He says there have been more than 600 closures in the past ten years and that's not right.

North side resident State Senator Tim Flakoll told commissioners a bridge spanning the low spot seems the best solution for a route that carries 3400 cars daily.

Engineers estimate it would cost $25 million to build a bridge on Elm. Moving the road to higher ground away from the Red River would cost more than $7 million.  Several of the options involve home buyouts.  One would require acquisition of El Zagel Golf Course.

Piepkorn says he'll look at other sources that could help cover the costs.
