North Dakota College Ramps Up Security After Computer Breach

Wahpeton, N.D. (AP) North Dakota State College of Science officials say they discovered malware activity on a number of school computers at its Wahpeton and Fargo campuses but have found no evidence that personal data was compromised.

Officials say they have ramped up security on its systems since the malware was discovered on September 1st. Personal information such as names, social security numbers, and mailing addresses of more than 15,000 current and former students and employees were contained on some of the affected computers.

The incident has been reported to law enforcement and key systems have been sent to a national forensic organization to confirm the analysis. The school has arranged to provide 12 months of free identity protection to those affected.
