FARGO (KFGO-AM) A city committee and the consulting engineer on the 19th Avenue North reconstruction project in Fargo are recommending the City Commission grant the contractor a 37-day extension.
Master Construction asked for the extension based on delays that it says were outside the company's control. The contractor says it has had a "daily battle" with the project because of relocation, replacement and delays encountered with underground power, natural gas and communication lines, old pavement that had to be removed that was sometimes twice as thick as expected, and changes made to the plans by the city that all added up.
The recommendation by the Public Works Projects Evaluation Committee extends "substanial" completion to October 19th and "final" completion to November 23rd. Engineers did an extensive review of weekly reports, daily logs and weather records to verify valid delays and if the extension was warranted. No additional time was given for inclement spring weather.
Master construction will be subject to financial penalities if the work is not completed by the deadline. The extension recommendation goes to City Commissioners for consideration Monday.
