Mandaree, N.D. (AP) In North Dakota's remote oil patch ambulances can take hours to get patients to the hospital. One emergency response company is using onsite paramedics and helicopter rescues to shave time and save lives. Easton Health and Safety is contracted by WPX Energy to provide emergency response to its Fort Berthold Indian Reservation sites. The company says its paramedics have an average response time of 11 minutes where ambulances can take an hour. Company owner Troy Easton says his team has saved several patients in who may have died if they waited for an ambulance. Easton's tactics are the norm on offshore rigs and in Alaska's north slope. But onshore they are somewhat rare says national institute for occupational safety and health oil and gas council member Dr. Kurt Papenfus.
