ST.PAUL, MINN. (KFGO-AM) It will be a month before Churches United for the Homeless learns whether it will receive a $6 million deferred loan for a proposed apartment complex for the homeless in Moorhead.
There's plenty of competition for the $100 million in the pool administered by the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency.
It's the largest amount ever allocated, according to MHFA Commissioner Mary Tingerthal. She says Churches United is one of 84 applications that poured in from non-profits looking for a piece of the pie. She expects about 40 projects will be selected when the agency's board of directors meets October 23 to award the loans.
Tingerthal says she can't comment on whether local opposition to the Moorhead proposal will hurt its chances.
Churches United wants to build the 41 unit apartment on 34th Street North.
