FARGO (KFGO-AM) Construction bids for an update of more than $100 million to Fargo's water plant came in too high so the project will have to be re-bid.
City Enterprise Director Bruce Grubb says a big demand for contractors is one of the reasons the low bids came in $14 million higher than expected. He says the plans will be re-examined to see where costs can be shaved.
The project will add a large adddition to the existing water plant. It includes a filtering system that will handle impurities in Sheyenne River water. It will also increase the plant's treatment capacity from 30 million to 45 million gallons daily, enough to meet future needs and possibly serve as a regional water treatent plant. The state of North Dakota is covering half the $103 million project.
Grubb says the hitch will mean about a six month delay. The project will take three years to build.
