FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- The Fargo City Commission says it needs more time to consider whether to allow chickens in residential areas.
Several residents urged commissioners at Monday night's Commission meeting to continue allowing the birds.
Planning Director Jim Gilmour asked the commission to clarify the city’s stance and laws. He says the oridinance allowing chickens was likely written before 1952 when the government encouraged people to garden at home to support World War II efforts.
Both West Fargo and Moorhead have ordinances that ban chickens in residential areas.
