FARGO (KFGO-AM) - Fargo Deputy Mayor Tim Mahoney has stepped down as surgeon at Essentia Health to dedicate more time to city government. Mahoney's city responsibilities have increased after Mayor Dennis Walaker was sidelined with kidney cancer last month.
Mahoney, a general and heart surgeon, tells KFGO News he will take up private practice, making his schedule more flexible to handle city affairs, something that's been difficult to manage while at Essentia.
The 65 year old Mahoney was first elected to the City Commission in 2005 and was re-elected to another term in the June election.
Mahoney says he talks with Walaker daily and that the Mayor is doing much better in his recovery.
