Washington (AP) North Dakota officials are seeking more federal help to fight rising crime in the Bakken oil belt. Senator John Hoeven led a meeting with law enforcement officials in Williston this week to bring attention to the issue. He says that local officials want the FBI and Drug Enforcement Agency to open permanent offices in western North Dakota to help fight increasingly complex drug and prostitution rings they are seeing in the region. Hoeven says both agencies send people for short periods of time now. But he says that the region would be better served if they were permanently based in Williston. Crime increased by 5.5 percent in 2013 compared to 2012. And drug arrests, a key concern in western North Dakota, increased by 19.5 percent.
