FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- The first graduates of the Corrections Academy at Rasmussen College already have jobs. The 9 will begin working for the Cass County Sheriff's Office January 2.

The program is a partnership between Rasmussen College and the Cass County Sheriff's Office. Jail Administrator Judy Tollefson says sheriff's office employees taught the 12-week course. The graduates received hands-on training, which included defensive tactics, inmate management skills, CPR certification and first responder training.

The program is the first private corrections academy to be approved by the North Dakota Peace Officers Standards and Training Board. Another class begins in April. Future graduates will be able to apply for corrections jobs across the state.
