WEST FARGO, N.D. -- Some parents at the Red River Valley Fair were shocked Friday to find some swine marked. The fair's general manager painted one of the pigs to show guests which part of the animal we eat, the bacon, ham and loin.

What was meant to be educational upset some parents. Some saying it was too graphic for their children."It's kind of weird and unorthodox," said Amanda Wurtz. "So, I don't know that I would have done it, but I don't find it offensive."  "It's important to find out where the food comes from" said New Rockford parent Louis Schafer.  "And, it is a food chain animal and not a pet. It's kind of nice to see where the loin is and the bacon and the ham."

And, next to where the cows are corralled, there is a tower of empty hamburger boxes to represent how much beef a cow produces.
