(Hillsboro, N.D.) -- A Nielsville, Minnesota man has been charged in the deaths of two sisters in a high-speed crash north of Hillsboro last month.

51 year-old James Yahnke was hurt in the May 17 rollover on a Traill County road. 21 year-old Teja Beyer of Red Lake Falls and her sister, 23 year-old Mercedes Rowley of Sharon, North Dakota, were both thrown from the Dodge Challenger driven by Yahnke when it rolled.

According to highway patrol reports, Yahnke was going 94 mph in the car owned by his girlfriend. Beyer was in the passenger seat while Rowley was sitting on her lap. All three had been at a cookout.

When asked by a deputy how much he'd had to drink, Yahnke responded, "apparently too much." Yahnke was airlifted to a Fargo hospital following the crash. He's still recovering from his injuries and is not in custody.
