FARGO (KFGO) - The Fargo Park District is completing agreements with Cass County and FEMA that will allow it to take over 121 acres of publicly owned land that will become the city's largest conservancy park.

The property is in three subdivisions just south of the city limits. Homes there have been bought out and removed because of frequent flooding. The Park District's Clay Whittlesey says the area is teeming with wildlife and is one of the premier birding spots in the state.

Much of the land is already accessible to the public but Whittlesey says it will be maintained and patrolled by the Park District.

The transition should be wrapped up next month or early July.
