FARGO  (KFGO-AM) -- A 6th grader at Horizon Middle School in Moorhead is expected to take part in a clinical study involving medical marijuana once the governor signs a bill legalizing it.

Brett Solum, 13, has Epilespy and suffers 100 seizures a day.

His parents, Paul and Amber Solum, told KFGO's Joel Heitkamp they're hopeful medical marijuana will bring normalcy back to his life.  "For our family and Brett, it would mean a life without seizures. He would be able to drive. He could have a typical, normal life. He'd be able to live on his own, become more independent, and be able to excel academically".

The family travels to Mayo Clinic in Rochester every three months for checkups, studies, and updates on the various medications Brett takes. That is where he would get his medical marijuana in pill or liquid form.

The family learned Brett had Epilepsy when he was five after he fell and hit his head and started seizing.
