FARGO (KFGO-AM) - This fall, a bike share program will be rolling in Fargo. "Great Rides Bike Share" will give NDSU students and the general public access to 100 rental bikes at 10 docking stations. Five of those will set up on NDSU properties. 98% of the users are expected to be University students.
Cam Knutson, now with the Kilbourne Group, started work on the project when he was NDSU student body president. He says the program is designed to be simple and efficient and is the first of its kind to combine the commmunity and a university. Backers hope to eventually expand the program to Moorhead.
NDSU students can use the bikes with a swipe of their i-d card. The bikes will also be available for the general public. Users can purcahse, day, week or yearly membership. Those fees will be announced before the fall roll-out.
The bikes, equipped with G-P-S tracking are Bison green.
