Expert doubts NDSU will hold Bohl to buyout payment

MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO AM)  -- A former agent for college coaches and now head of the "Sport Business Institute" at the University of Minnesota says it would be unusual if NDSU requires Bison head coach Craig Bohl to pay the school $100,000 for taking the coaching job at Wyoming. That provision is included in the contract Bohl signed a year ago with NDSU.

Professor Rayla Allison has no direct information regarding the Bohl buyout but is very familiar with similar deals.  She says such payout provisions are rarely enforced because Division One school's don't want a reputation for holding a former coach "hostage" to a liquidated damage clause. She says that could work against recruitment of a top notch replacement.

Bohl leaves NDSU after 11 years. He'll remain as head football coach through the end of the season. His successor has not yet been hired.
