FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (AP) - A former Mille Lacs County sheriff's deputy has been sentenced to 33 years in prison for sexually abusing several boys on a fishing trip.
Aaron Heuer was sentenced Thursday in Otter Tail County. Under a plea deal, Heuer admitted he inappropriately touched four boys, ages 8 to 10, while volunteering as a fishing guide at Lutheran Island Camp near Henning last summer.
Heuer abused the boys while they were in a boat on the lake. Victim impact statements say Heuer threatened to throw the boys into the lake if they told.
Heuer could be out of prison in 22 years. He would have supervised release for 11 years and then a lifetime of conditional release.
Heuer has been in jail since his arrest in July 2013.
