MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO-AM) - A Barnesville, Minn. man is in big trouble after police say he broke into the local animal shelter to steal his own dog.

Court documents say 22-year-old Hunter Briscoe was told he would have to pay a $35.00 fee after police impounded the dog for running at large. Briscoe allegedly told the animal control officer he would not pay the fee and said he planned to steal the dog.

When police checked the shelter last Friday, the dog was missing. A witness told police that Briscoe bragged about the theft on Facebook. The post included a picture of the dog and an explanation of how the dog was freed.

Briscoe was taken to the Clay county jail and charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor theft.
