FARGO (KFGO-AM) Just when you thought Spring was here. Forecasters are watching a developing storm system that will impact the region over the next several days.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard watch in effect for much of the Red River Valley from Monday morning through Tuesday morning. That includes Fargo-Moorhead, Grand Forks-East Grand Forks, Grafton, Valley City and Gwinner. The total snow accumulation in the Fargo area is expected to be 8 to 9 inches. A number of other warnings, watches and advisories are also posted for the rest of the region.

Temperatures will fall throughout Sunday afternoon with light rain, possibly mixed with snow and sleet in the evening, turning to snow after midnight. Snow and sleet accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are possible overnight with strong north winds. Monday, snow, heavy at times, driven by north winds of 30 to 40 mph with gusts over 50 mph, will cause blowing and drifting, creating blizzard conditions, making travel Monday difficult or impossible in some area's.

Where the heaviest of the snow will be is still not certain, but most National Weather service models are indicating the bulls-eye to be near a Jamestown-Hillsboro-Waskish line about 50 miles either side. In this band, 10 to15 inches of snow is possible with a lower amounts south and north of this band.

The snow is expected to wind down late Monday night and Tuesday morning.
