FARGO, ND (KFGO AM ) -- The Fargo metro area, which includes Cass and Clay Counites, added 6,075 residents in one year, making it the fourth fastest growing metropolitan area in the country.

That's according to new 2013 estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The Bismarck metro area was ranked 5th with a population gain of 3,528 residents.

North Dakota also had three of the fastest growing "micropolitan" areas.

Those are cities with populations of 10,000 but less than 50,000.

Williston topped the list, Dickinson ranked second and Minot was fifth.

The new census data shows Williams County was the nation's fastest growing county and Stark County was fourth.

Population growth was widespread, with 38 of the state's 53 counties showing population gains.

The Census Bureau says the fastest growing areas of the country are located in or near oil and gas-rich fields that are attracting people from around the nation, looking for work.
