MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO AM) -- The Moorhead Fire Department says a massive pile of wood chips that's been smoldering for more than 2 weeks at the city landfill is expected to continue until the fire burns itself out.
The fire department says winds, expected to switch to the northwest tonight, will push more smoke across Moorhead through Saturday evening.
Those with respiratory conditions should limit their time outdoors.
Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Wallin says the smoldering material is up to several feet deep and due to the size of the pile, it's impossible to extinquish.
The fire was caused by spontaneous combustion.
