FARGO (KFGO-AM) The National Weather Service and the Army Corps of Engineers are conducting snow survey's from the ground and air in the Red River Basin.

The data collected every spring looks at moisture in the snow pack and helps develop spring flooding models. Early flood outlooks have already indicated a low chance of serious flooding. Weather Service Meteorologist Greg Gust doesn't expect much change in a new outlook due out this Thursday.

The Weather Service has been flying so-called "gamma flights" in the region for the past week, using infra-red sensors to check water content. Corps staff will be on the ground in the Red Basin Thursday and Friday, taking snow samples.

Gust cautions at some point, it will warm up and the region will move into a storm pattern that could bring additional snow or rain that could change the flood outlook.
