ALEXANDRIA, MINNESOTA (KFGO-AM) -- Two people are dead following an officer involved shooting in central Minnesota.
A Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy was shot in the chest, but was saved by his bullet resistant vest. The officer was treated at Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria hospital and released.
The shooting occured just before 9:30 p.m. Monday after a deputy was checking on a suspicious vehicle. An occupant in the vehicle shot the officer in the chest. The deputy returned fire and the suspect's fled. Ttheir vehicle got stuck in the snow a short distance away and they took off on foot. After an extensive search, the two were found dead, and a gun was found near their bodies.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is handling the investigation.
Alexandria Police, the Minnesota State Patrol, BCA, DNR and other agencies assisted with the search and investigation.
