FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Officials who spoke at an unmanned aircraft conference in Fargo say the business opportunities are unfolding quickly in the drone industry.
Robert Becklund is the executive director of North Dakota's drone test site, one of six such facilities in the country and the first one to begin testing. He says the state has been aggressive in minimizing costs for potential entrepreneurs and it could be "especially easy" for local developers to get started.
The event highlighted a recent joint venture between separate hardware and software companies from Fargo. They formed Botlink, a platform meant to help drones stay up in the air longer while collecting and distributing real-time data through cellular networks.
Executives of the new company say most details in the deal were worked out in a week.
