DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) - Dozens of plots have been added to the Devils Lake City Gardens to allow more people to grow their own fruits and vegetables.

56 spaces and access to water have been added to the facility. People can sign up for an initial $30 fee.

Helen Carlson administers the program for the city of Devils Lake. Carlson says the gardens are very popular and she usually has a waiting list every year.

The new spaces bring the total number of plots to 147.

The program was started in 2004 by the then-director of the area chamber of commerce. It was turned over to the city two years later.
