MOORHEAD, Minn. (KFGO-AM) - One person has died in a fiery crash involving a vehicle that was hit by a BNSF freight train south of Moorhead. The accident happened around 9 am Saturday, just east of Highway 75 on 60th Avenue South.
Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist says he hopes two witnesses who saw the crash can help investigators. “The vehicle was dragged about a third of a mile down the track” Bergquist said. “It took a little while to get to where the vehicle was. We finally got a smaller truck down there and were able to put it out.”
The southbound train was carrying what appeared to be empty hopper cars. Bergquist says both crossarms at the intersection were down and one of the crossarms was sheared off.
The sheriff's office and BNSF will investigate.
