FARGO (KFGO-AM) - North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem is asking a federal judge to reconsider his order to halt construction of the Oxbow-Hickson-Bakke ring dike.
Two weeks ago, U.S. District Court Judge John Tunheim issued a temporary injunction that stops the project until the Minnesota DNR completes a review. The DNR and the Richland/Wilkin Joint Powers Authority are concerned about the project's environmental impacts.
Stenhejem says North Dakota should not be deprived of the right to determine the appropriate balance of protection for its citizens and the environment. In court documents, Stenehjem says North Dakota should be given the opportunity to exercise its own sovereign choices.
