Washington, D.C. (MNN) -- U.S. Senator Al Franken is cautiously optimistic that the number of farms reporting new outbreaks of H5N2 will continue to decrease.

His comments come after a USDA report showed no new infections detected.

while he continues to push for help at the federal level, Franken applauds the handling of the crisis by the state of Minnesota and Governor Mark Dayton.

85 farms in 21 Minnesota counties have tested positive for this deadly virus, and 5.6 million birds have died.
