BISMARCK (KFGO-AM) -- The oil in rail cars that derailed and caught fire east of Heimdal, ND was in compliance with new oil conditioning regulations from the state.
Allison Ritter with the Dept. of Mineral Resources confirms that the oil had been treated to reduce the vapor pressure and lower its explosive nature. It was loaded at the Hess Corp. terminal in Tioga.
Six BNSF cars left the tracks and four caught fire.
