WEST FARGO (KFGO-AM) -- There won't be any poultry at the Red River Valley Fair this summer. Assistant General Manager Jodi Buresh says they decided to cancel the exhibit because of avian influenza concerns.

"We're going to kind of take a twist to that because in the Ag Education center we always have a lot of chickens being born and hatching. This is a great opportunity for us to actually educate the people as to why we aren't having them on the grounds. You know, this is what our purpose it, educating people about our ag industry so I think it's going to help us in the long-run, said Buresh.

Last year the RRVF canceled the newborn pig exhibit because of the PED-v virus.

The Red River Valley Fair is July 7th through the 12th.

The North Dakota State Fair announced last month it was canceling its poultry exhibit, and the North Dakota Board of Animal Health has actually halted bird movement to shows, exhibitions and public sales within the state.
