WASHINGTON, D.C. (KFGO-AM) -- Local leaders are in Washington, D.C. trying to advance the F-M diversion project.
The delegation, including the mayors of Fargo and Moorhead, met with members of the congressional delegations of Minnesota and North Dakota to talk about public-private partnerships to fund and build the diversion. They've been holding meetings with the Corps of Engineers and the Office of Budget Management.
Fargo Mayor Tim Mahoney told the leaders "we are an economic engine that works throughout both states and works very well for all the citizens, and we're very excited for the work that we've done and now we know that you have to do some heavy lifting out here to help us finish this project.
Work on getting permanent flood protection has been on-going since the record 2009 flood.
