FARGO (KFGO-AM) - A dust-up at North Dakota State University over next week's showing of the steamy movie, 50 Shades of Grey.
The student group, bison Catholic, representing 4,000 Catholic students on campus, wants the movie cancelled, claiming the explicit film blurs the lines of rape and other crimes against women.
Student run Campus Attractions, plans a 3-day run of the movie at the Memorial Union theater.
Father James Cheney, Director of the campus Newman Center says the the movie clamorizes sexual abuse and abusive relationships, sending a bad message to students. He calls it "public porn" which should not be paid for with student fee's.
Bison Catholic has launched an on-line a petition drive asking the movie be cancelled. The students have also started a prayer chain. Father Cheney says Campus Attractions has told bison Catholic it will not cancel the show.
University spokeswoman Laura Mcdaniel says like nearly all public universities, NDSU adminstration does not interfere with the student decision making process.
