BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - The State Board of Higher Education has selected a new chancellor to oversee the state's public universities.
The board unanimously selected Mark Hagerott as the next chancellor of the North Dakota University System.
The announcement concludes a months-long process that saw more than 20 candidates vying for the position.
Hagerott is a Mandan native and Rhodes scholar who became a leading cybersecurity expert and professor with the Navy. He currently serves as the senior civilian and deputy director of the academy's Center for Cyber Security Studies in Annapolis, Maryland.
He beat out finalists Paul Turman and Robert Donley for the top spot.
He will replace Interim Chancellor Larry Skogen, who will return to his position as president of Bismarck State College when his term ends in July.
