MOORHEAD (KFGO-AM) - Moorhead fire investigators say improper disposal of smoking materials is the likely cause of a fire which did major damage to an apartment building at 3010 18th Street South Wednesday.
The 20-unit building sustained about $90,000 in moderate fire and heavy smoke damage.
The Red Cross and Salvation Army are helping find temporary housing for 21 people displaced by fire.
Fire officials want to remind everyone who smokes to make sure they are using a metal or glass deep ash tray and to be extra careful with smoking materials on decks where wind can increase the hazard.
