MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A jury has determined that a Georgia truck driver is not responsible for the deaths of three people who lost their lives in a crash in North Dakota.
Vernon Wright, of Hiram, Georgia was found not guilty of three counts of negligent homicide on Wednesday.
Wright was charged in a fiery crash on U.S. Highway 2 near Stanley in June 2013 that killed two Minot men and a Rhame man. The tanker trailer exploded in the crash, and five other vehicles burned.
Prosecutors during the trial said Wright was not driving safely while operating a tanker trailer filled with oil. The defense disputed the prosecution's argument and maintained that some vehicles in the crash might have been traveling too fast for the foggy conditions.
