BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - Gov. Jack Dalrymple has signed a bill to spend $5 million to build a new home for the state's first family.
The Legislature approved the bill last week.
The measure stipulates that $1 million of the cost be raised from private sources.
Lawmakers have been attempting to replace the current dwelling for years. They say it is has security issues, is not handicap-accessible, and likely contains lead paint, mold and asbestos.
Attempts to build a new governor's residence failed in the two prior legislative sessions.
