FARGO, N.D. -- Businesses that provide equal access to people with disabilities are recognized.
Eight individuals and five businesses are honored including Employer of the Year honors going to Happy Joes, Sleep Inn, Kmart and Granite City. TNT Fitness was given a Distinguished service award.
The Metro Area Mayors Committee for People with Disabilities works to eliminate employment and environmental barriers for people with disabilities.
"It really gives us an opportunity to recognize individuals that really do some outstanding work in the community to better a person with a disability, to better their lives, to empower them to be part of the community and to integrate within the community," says Mayor Committee Chair Tom Thompson.
The Metro Area Mayors Committee For People With Disabilities has been giving out awards since the 1970's.
