BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota's Legislature is running out of time and measures for proposed income tax cuts.
Lawmakers began this session with several proposals to lower individual tax rates or to reduce them to zero. That was before oil prices took a nosedive.
Senators on Thursday defeated a House bill that originally sought a 10 percent income tax cut.
Only one measure now remains that would cut individual and corporate income taxes. Senate Bill 2349 would cut individual income taxes by 10 percent and corporate income taxes by 5 percent.
Data show North Dakota collects about $500 million annually from the state income tax. That's up from $214 million in 2004.
Officials say the Legislature has cut income tax rates a combined 38 percent since 2009.
